Winter Program – Restore your lawn's health through the colder months in Sydney.

At Pro-Lawn Greenkeeping Services, our Winter Program is a specialised seasonal treatment designed to target and eliminate moss growth that commonly invades lawns during the cooler months. Moss thrives in damp, shaded, and compacted areas — especially under trees, beside structures, and in low-lying zones where drainage is poor. While moss may seem harmless at first, its presence is often a clear indication that your lawn is struggling beneath the surface.

This program doesn’t just remove moss; it tackles the underlying issues that allow it to flourish — such as poor soil aeration, lack of sunlight, and excessive moisture retention. By removing built-up thatch and moss, we create an environment where your turf can breathe, absorb nutrients, and recover its strength before spring.

Why Choose the Winter Program?

Moss can silently overtake a lawn, especially in shaded or damp areas where grass struggles to grow. If left unchecked, moss smothers turf and reduces your lawn’s ability to bounce back in spring.

Our Winter Program provides:

How the Winter Program Works

Stage 1 - Free Lawn Assessment & No-Obligation Quote

Inspect for Moss and Lawn Health Issues

We carefully examine your lawn to identify the extent of moss growth, any signs of thatch buildup, and potential underlying issues such as poor drainage, compaction, or shading that might be contributing to the problem.

Assess Lawn Conditions

Every lawn is different. We assess variables such as grass type, soil texture, sunlight exposure, and overall lawn health to create a treatment plan that’s both effective and sustainable.

Discuss Your Goals and Expectations

Whether you want to completely restore your lawn, improve its appearance, or prevent moss from returning, we’ll talk through your goals so we can align our treatment plan with what matters most to you.

Provide a Tailored Quote

Once we understand your lawn’s requirements, we’ll prepare a clear and itemised quote outlining the scope of work, the recommended treatments, and the expected outcomes. There’s absolutely no pressure to commit at this stage — the decision is entirely yours.

Stage 2 - Moss Removal & Lawn Treatment

Dethatching (Scarifying) the Lawn

We begin by using a professional dethatcher — a specialised machine that looks similar to a lawn mower but operates very differently. Instead of cutting grass, it uses vertical blades that slice into the surface, lifting and removing built-up moss, thatch, and dead organic matter.

Manual Moss Collection

Once the moss and thatch are loosened, we rake it up by hand or with power equipment and place it in your green waste bin or a designated disposal area. This ensures your lawn is left clean, tidy, and ready for the next step.

Application of a Liquid Biocide

After the mechanical removal, we apply a liquid moss control solution (biocide) that targets any residual spores and moss fragments that weren’t removed during dethatching.

Final Site Check & Post-Service Advice

Before we leave, we’ll do a walk-around to:

  • Check for any missed patches

  • Ensure the area is tidy

  • Provide advice on aftercare, such as when to mow next, how to water properly, and how to avoid moss returning in the future

What to Expect After Treatment

After the Winter Program, your lawn will:

Results are visible within 1–2 weeks as your lawn begins to recover and breathe again.
