Spring care for you lawn

Daisy flower year round program

Spring Care Lawn Renovation

Step by step guide to renovate your lawn during Spring

Getting your lawn ready for Summer

Our Spring Program is a comprehensive package which covers every facet of lawn renovation undertaken in the spring to take advantage of the season ahead. Our aim is to either rejuvenate an old lawn and to help it re-establish itself or invigorate a newer, healthier lawn to keep it looking in prime condition. In either case, your lawn should show a marked improvement within six weeks of the programs’ completion.

The procedures undertaken to achieve the results we look for are divided into three stages.

  • Stage 1: Lawn consultation
  • Stage 2: Spraying, eradicating and fertilising
  • Stage 3: scarifying, aerating and fertilising

STAGE 1: Spring Program Lawn Renovation consultation

We come out and assess your lawn. After identifying the weeds and problem areas, we discuss your needs and desires for your lawn. We will then provide you a FREE, no obligation quote.

STAGE 2: Spraying, eradicating and fertilising

We thoroughly spray your lawn, eradicating as many broad-leafed weeds as possible, thus reducing your lawns’ competition. Some of the broad-leafed weeds we control that people have most problems with are:

  • Dandelions
  • Bindii
  • Clover

Broad-leafed weeds- lawn spring care

We then carry on with thoroughly spray your lawn with herbicide to eradicate broad-leafed weeds. For more information about different types of grasses, please check out our Ultimate Grass Guide.

gardener eradicating broad-leafed weeds A week later, we come back and spot-spray the lawn to hit any weeds we may have missed. By this time, most of the weeds sprayed during the first week will be showing signs of necrosis.

Please note- this program is designed to eradicate broad-leafed weeds ONLY. The program also includes Moss and Onion Weed. Grasses like Veldt and Winter Grass are not broad-leafed weeds.

STAGE 3: scarifying, aerating and fertilising

The final stage is where all the action starts.

We will ask you to irrigate your lawn area the night before. This will soften the soil profile and allow for deeper penetration with the aerator. DO NOT irrigate after 9:00 pm the night before or on the morning of our visit. Because if the soil gets too wet, the machinery can make furrows.

gardener mowing lawn Please cut your lawn about two days before we arrive. This helps to spread the topsoil later on.
gardener scarifying lawn When we arrive, we will initially scarify your lawn, removing the thatch that has built up over the years. This process allows your soil surface to ‘breathe’.
 lawn aerated with motorised corer

Your lawn is then aerated with a motorised corer, removing plugs of soil and allowing air to penetrate under the surface. This process will also:

    • Oxygenate the soil; Allow water and nutrients to reach your lawns’ roots quickly; and
  • Improve drainage and aeration. This also allows the microorganisms in your lawn to go about their business.
lawn fertilisation After coring, we then fertilise your lawn using our own blend of fertiliser which is very high in nitrogen and other trace elements. It is then top dressed with a specially formulated soil, packed with humus and nutrients. The soil is then spread evenly over the lawn surface forcing it into the plug holes left by the aeration process.
ProLawn lawn Spring Program results The process is then completed. Your lawn will require heavy watering for the first week. It will be best to water the lawn for, at least, 30 minutes a day for the first 7 days.Within a few weeks, your lawn should be showing the benefits of the program and growing well.
